This course will fulfill all the initial and refresher requirements for bloodborne pathogens train per 29 CFR 1910.1030, "The OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Standard."
Course duration: 2 hours
Completion of this program will require completion of the online, narrated presentation, as well as completion of the quiz with score of 100%.
Users may also benefit from the resources attached to the program, to aid in the development of a service's Infection Control Program.

This is the first part of your two-part process to transition to the 2019 EMT-1 Scope of Practice. After this didactic module is completed, the second step will be scheduling your skills check-offs. Please review the video and written module instructions, as well as the video introductions to each section. You are not authorized to use these new skills until you have completed both section 1 and 2 of the transition and have been issued a new EMT certification.

This CME delivery is specifically intended for Alaska EMS personnel and will meet the requirements for training with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996, or just termed as "HIPAA". The actual law can be found in 45 Code of Federal Regulations Parts 160, 162, and 164, and has been updated several times, the last update in 2013.
The HIPAA process can be confusing for EMS, even after the 20+ years since its implementation. The narrated presentation, case examples, web links, and attached documents should clarify what EMS in Alaska should comply with when handling a patient's protected Health information (PHI).
Every Alaska EMS provider must be aware of, and trained in their individual service's HIPAA protocols, and know who their service's HIPAA Compliance Officer is.
The module consists of:
1. A narrated EMS-centric HIPAA presentation (1-hour) (mandatory completion)
2. A review of mandatory and optional educational documents as well as pertinent weblinks (45-minutes)
3. An end of module quiz. (15-minutes) (mandatory to receive CME certificate)
4. State-approved CME Certificate (cannot access certificate without passing quiz)
As mentioned, upon completing the presentation and the document/web link review, there is a short quiz to complete, and you must achieve a mandatory score of 80%. You cannot access the quiz until all mandatory items have been completed. The quiz may be taken as many times as required. All answers to questions are contained in the presentation. Once the quiz has been successfully completed, you can print/save the CME certificate which is worth 2.0 hours of state-approved EMS continuing education.

Our January 20, 2022 will take place from 6:00-7:00pm. Topic: Alaska Newborn Hearing Screening Update and Recent Issues: Changes in the Statewide System of Care.
Session Learning Objectives:
Participants will:
- Understand the 2019 Joint Commission on Infant Hearing recommendations pertaining to screening, diagnosis and early intervention
- Understand how Alaska is meeting the early hearing detection and intervention 1, 3, 6 goals
- Identify at least three challenges to receiving timely audiology assessments after their abnormal newborn hearing screening results
- Describe the current scope of Alaska’s system of care for infants and/or infants and children under 2 who are at risk of hearing loss in Alaska
- Describe impacts of COVID-19 on newborn hearing screening referral and diagnosis

SBIRT: Screening for Behavioral Health Conditions in Your Practice Setting
This module covers information, workflow, and best practices for conducting behavioral health screening as the first step within the Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) process.
- This module covers the basic foundations of Motivational Interviewing (MI). In this module, you will learn the definition of MI, understand the spirit or approach of MI, gain an introduction to the principles of MI, and complete learning exercises to support your learning of the basics of MI.
Brief Negotiated Interview (BNI)
- This module reviews some of the key foundations of Motivational Interviewing (MI) since understanding MI is important for conducting an effective Brief Negotiated Interview (BNI). The module explains what a BNI is, the steps involved in conducting a BNI with clients/patients, and includes several learning exercises to reinforce the material covered in this course.
Referral to Treatment within the Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) Framework

In this module, you will learn to identify the types of behavioral health treatment, describe the steps of the SBIRT referral process, and introduce referral implementation best practices for your practice setting.
Alaska Trauma Registry Training for New Registrars
This course is designed to give you an introduction and basic knowledge of how to enter patient cases into the Alaska Trauma Registry
The course consist of five modules, multiple videos, and a four quizzes/cases.

OSHA's Bloodborne Pathogens Standard (29 CFR 1910.1030) is a regulation that prescribes safeguards to protect workers against health hazards related to bloodborne pathogens. Its requirements address items such as exposure control plans, universal precautions, engineering and work practice controls, personal protective equipment, housekeeping, laboratories, hepatitis B vaccination, post-exposure follow-up, hazard communication and training, and recordkeeping. The standard places requirements on employers whose workers can be reasonably anticipated to contact blood or other potentially infectious materials (OPIM), such as unfixed human tissues and certain body fluids.
