- Session description: This session will discuss factors contributing to increasing numbers of FASD, diagnosis overview, and mechanisms by which alcohol can harm fetal development.
How to Screen for Prenatal Alcohol Exposure (0.5 hr content)
- Session description: This session will examine common scenarios of prenatal alcohol exposure (PAE), explore the factors that contribute to alcohol use during pregnancy, and provide tips to help a clinician improve their skills in obtaining PAE history information.
Symptoms of Prenatal Alcohol Exposure (0.5 hr content)
- Session description: This session will identify the primary symptoms individuals impacted by PAE may experience (that are a direct result of the brain changes) and explore the secondary symptoms that these individuals may experience that are a result of poor fit between environmental expectations and the impaired capacity of the impacted brain.
DSM Diagnoses (0.5 hr content)
- Session description: This session will discuss the common DSM diagnoses given to individuals impacted by prenatal alcohol exposure (PAE) and explore the symptoms of these diagnoses as potentially being either primary or secondary symptoms of the PAE.
How to Provide Accommodations in Behavioral Health Services (0.5 hr content)
Session description: This session will examine clinical interventions for good fit between what the brain can achieve and the expectations of the intervention, explore how to integrate the information from assessments when developing accommodations to meet the brain at its capacity, discuss how to best support the individual and their family, and identify resources for individuals and families.
