Foodborne Illness Investigation & Response Training for Public Health
Introduction
Course Purpose:
The goal of this course is to assist public health nurses, food safety sanitarians, and public health partners investigate enteric illness; coordinate with local and state partners; respond rapidly to outbreak situations; identify roles and responsibilities of partner agencies.
Course Description:
This training will take place over the course of 3 weeks. During week 1, participants will attend a day long in-person training facilitated by the Section of Epidemiology Infectious Disease Program. After the in-person training participants will work through 3 modules made available through the online Alaska Health and Social Services Learning Management System (for external partners) or Moodle (for state employees). The follow-up modules will provide an opportunity to reinforce the information reviewed during the in-person course. You may work through each module at your own pace. Each module will require approximately 2 hours of work. It is expected that course participants will complete the follow-up online modules in the 1-3 weeks following the in-person course.
Course Objectives:
By the end of the training it is expected that participants will be able to perform the following:
- Communicate with other team members during enteric illness investigation
- Describe roles and responsibilities of state and local partners
- Implement best interview practices
- Implement steps in an outbreak investigation
